A very clever purpose built shop indeed. Sourcing materials and supplies must be a challenge, but I'm guessing that such a small community is rich in characters and cooperation. Survival would otherwise be an even bigger challenge. Not a retirement destination most of us would even consider.

The other boat shop I have seen using this concept was built to finish a 28' ferrocement hull gifted to a club in Hastings, NY, by Pete Seeger. This was about 40 years ago on what had previously been a commercial pier owned by Anaconda Copper. The arches were of bent 1x3 with spacers between the two layers of wood. There were stringers connecting the wood, but no pillars.

The only heat was from the Sun and the inside temperature dropped quickly when the Sun went down. When the Sun shone it was often uncomfortably warm. As it was meant as a temporary structure, it was skinned with polyethylene sheeting and had similar sheeting on the inner surface of the arches. It stood up well through a rather cold, stormy winter.
