Perhaps the cleverest name I ever was on the transom of a dinghy being towed behind a beautiful yacht in Northeast Harbor, Maine. The name was "Tender behind"!

"Tender Behind" is the name of one of New Zealand designer John Welsford's designs! See: https://jwboatdesigns.co.nz/plans/tiny-boats-tenders-and-dinks/tender-behind/

Dare I bring up the apocryphal Titan Line that named its vessels after planets. Thus: Titan Uranus!

I still like “One Last Boat III”.

My dad, Bob, wanted his ashes to be put in the hull of his Hobie Cat so he could "keep sailing around Gardiner's Bay (Long Island)". We I didn't keep the Hobie but I put his ashes in my Cape Dory Typhoon, which I sail in Gardiner's Bay, and I named my boat "Bob's Along."

There once was a bachelor who named his boat "After You". The story goes that he liked to meet women and enjoyed talking about his boat, especially when they asked what his boat was called. His answer was always, I named it after you. He hoped that this would impress them, which it may have, until they saw the boat with "After You" painted on the stern.

NAMASTE' 1 and NAMASTE' 2 were so named because of the absolute Peace and Tranquility they brought me when sailing.

Due to an occasional bent toward tongue in cheek it can take a moment to translate

Frank. This however is a golden example of towering wisdom!

Best name (my Colvin Gazelle schooner) Amica - Latin for lady friend

Funniest name Dunmowen - I asked the owner if he was a Scot and he said "No, I'm just never going to cut the grass again."

During the build of my Michalak Blobster sail boat I jokingly named it Bob as this was the very least I expected from a boat. The name stuck. Fortunately Bob did indeed bob. (On more formal occasions it's Bobbie Jean)

When deciding on the name for our new boat, my beloved and I batted it around for over a month before deciding on Nereid. Previous boat names have included Caviar [clearly a roe boat], Sur Le Vent, Privateer and Undine. We never named our 12' canoe as we never used it. Our shoulders don't let us paddle but it went to a good home.

I thought I was a genius at the time (age changes many things) when I managed to combine my wife’s and two daughters’ names into one — ROXANDI

(Roxanne, Andie and Dianne)

Many years ago, my father bought a small powerboat from an aging couple, named Herman and Edith. Being a new boat owner and learning that bad luck that can come from re-naming a boat, my formative years on the water were aboard the “Herm-Edie” with a pea soup green hull.

Best of the bunch was a 16' skin and frame sit on top kayak (long before such became common) an attempt at a 10# it finished out at 12# minimalist stick and tissue construction sticks were 3/8" square cedar, tissue was window winterizing clear shrink film.

The appropriate name "Leastie Beastie" as I've travelled a path similar to King Pellinore.

Another notable name

"ACDC" for a proa that goes both ways.

I'm sorry, but our boat has the best name. Especailly if you are a fan of Monty Python, as my wife and I are.

"Watery Tart"

We did a ceremony in renaming her shortly after purchasing her used: My wife, being a self appointed shaman/woman/witchy type, performed a ceremony asking for favor from Poseidon, and sacrificing a bomber of really good beer, (we might have tasted a bit of it after...)s ending it to the 4 wind directions, and other sorts of ceremonial fol de rol, and happy to report Poseidon indeed acepted our name change, and haven't had any bad luck on her to speak of these last 10 years.
