When we published Chelcie’ Liu’s article, Proof That Clean Bottoms = Faster Boats, most of you found it informative, but there were many comments asking for more details on the beautiful Kees Prins design, Townsend Tern, featured in the article.
We caught up with our friend Kees and he agreed to share the study plans with our readers. Enjoy!
If you’re looking to purchase a complete set of final plans for Townsend Tern ($650), please reach out to Kees directly at: keesprins@gmail.com . You can see a video profile on Townsend Tern here.—Eds
P.S. Here’s a photo and note we received from Townsend Tern’s current owner, Jonathan Lewis:
“The Townsend Tern after 5 feet of snow in Southern California. Board up, of course.” •SCA•
A very elegant little boat, but what would you expect from a Dutchman named Kees? Very well done!
What do you call a rig like this, with a jib/genoa bigger than the main, and the main is too forward to be a mizzen, and too small to actually BE a main, and the jib/genoa is so big and it's mast so far forward, it would make the boat a catboat, except that there's that mini-main aft?
