This is fun. On my car-fob (electronic entry) I have ONE key, for the house. Yes, there are 15 -20 other keys on their respective hooks. I find myself wondering why . . . Just one key on my person. Perhaps it’s akin to separation of church and state (?), or work and play. Trying to avoid cross-contamination (?)! When we go to ‘camp’ (the cabin, the cottage, whatever you call it in your neck of the woods) — I don’t want to be reminded that I have an office, keys to others’ homes, the shed (that needs to be cleared out(!) — so I keep the ‘camp-key’ on it’s own special ring (has a monkey’s fist on the ring; makes me smile). Enough rambling. Or maybe I just don’t like fumbling for the house-key when we come home after dark and I forgot to leave the porch light on. Who knows? Thanks for the question.

But at least 5 of those keys are for boats or boat locks

Aw…unencumbered youth…1 MC, 1 Bike, 1 boat, 1 Surfboard, 1 PL/PD old insured car…1 or 2 girl friends, wants & needs were few…then some how it slowly got away…college graduate, jobs, wife, children, investments…now I’m old, and the government taxes my investments at a greater level each year, every time I go to the mailbox I’m told I need more Liability coverage by my Insureance Co….ALL because of too much stuff!!…In the end…real value is your health, family, and a couple of “old boats”!!!

I live in a rural area of Canada. Have to take a ferry to get here… it’s kinda like a gated community! Don’t lock the house or the boats (yes, plural) and the car keys are in the ignition so I don’t loose them. The key to the mailbox is the only one I actually carry around. The simple life.

You are absolutely right. The number keys is directly proportionate to the burdens in your life. (I sold my BWM motorcyle when lack of use required replacement of an expensive fuel pump. One less thing to worry about.)

It helps that our storage unit and our car both use keyless entry. I have answered the poll as if they all required a key.

I had a plastic “key” of sorts to my dinghy outboard which mysteriously disappeared today at the city dock. I used a piece of an old keychain to get the thing started. I don’t own any keys really.

5 out of 7 keys for boats or locks on boat trailers. Nice bike!

Oh, hey! I had a Paso, too. It had great ergonomics--and how often can you say that about a Ducati?

I had to count. but 13 was my lucky number! Lol! More on a wooden plack with hooks, that I made in high school shop class. It is the shape of a key, by the way! Lol! BestRoy

I put 2, but in reality, they are both for the same place - one, the entrance, and the other, the laundry room! I love being free of all other keys - I sold my SUV years ago, and work at home, so no office keys - no boat, sadly -

I have one key for our car and one key to the house. On the boat, I carry one key for the outboard lock, one key for the companionway padlock and one key for the cockpit hatch padlock. All quite manageable. Just don't ask me how many guitars/other stringed instruments I have...

None. I’ve lost the key to my house, my boats aren’t locked either, and my car key resides in my car.

In my pocket: Two. Each car has its own ring, and each ring also has a house key. There are nine other keys, but they live on a rack. Five of those are for padlocks, only one of which is in current use. The grand total: 12.

My normal complement is nine keys for home, car and bicycles. It’s winter so the cottage and boat keys are not included. The discussion led me to considering the only boat that I have that has a key ignition/starter has been mine for 14 years. I have never taken the key out so that’s one less I have to carry. It is reassuring that I have a trustworthy marina.

House, Subaru, bike lock. I am sans boat right now. Motorcycles are unfortunately not possible due to Dupuytren's Contracture in both hands (can't get all fingers on clutch/brake levers).
