Good story. Great writing! I loved it and was thankful I was not aboard to share that experience.

Glad you made it out in one piece. Hope the boat did, too. How about the other sailors? Any damage or injuries, or, God forbid, casualties?

Good story, I’m really glad you made it back safe. We all need reminders that no matter how experienced you are, nature is in charge.

I was a little distracted by the geography. Lake St. Clair is not one of the Great Lakes. Although it’s sandwiched right there between Huron and Erie, it’s not one of the five sisters. Also, you couldn’t have crashed into Ohio without floating down the Detroit river and through a pretty good hunk of Lake Erie.

I like the writing. You recovered well and self-rescued, too. If we were to be on the same boat in the same weather, how would you advise someone to avoid the capsize? This review of the Newport 17 says that the stock sail didn't allow reefing and doesn't have a topping lift, but that aftermarket sails allow reefing. Just curious if your boat had that limitation. Also, would it have allowed you to drop the mainsail into lazy jacks, and go under jib alone? https://www.mnpctech.com/blogs/news/lockley-newport-17-sailboat-review
