Your Halman 20 seems to be similar to my Bristol corinthian 19. These are boats for the long haul, but not for hauling out every weekend. I have a mooring. As i get older, maybe i will get a slip to ensure that I can safely get onboard. I have everything rigged to the cockpit including a jib downhaul. the problem with smaller boats is how uncomfortable they can be. Also a capsize could be a death sentence.

Sorry to be argumentative but I have to disagree with the there are no perfect boats line. I have one. Yes, there are compromises but that doesn’t mean perfection isn’t achieved.

Perhaps perfection is in the moment of need - "perfect for....?" My M15 is nearly perfect for me - but I'd like to have a flush bottom that can be beached more easily and launched in shallow ramps. But on any day, on my home lake, it is perfect for me.

OK Jonathan, you can't say that without sayin what your perfect boat is?

Sorry. I was fortunate enough to buy the Townsend Tern that was designed and built by Kees Prins. However, I also think my previous boat, a Herreshoff 31, was pretty near perfect. I had to say farewell to her when I switched coasts. The TT trailers well and provides comfortable accommodation during cross country road trips. I didn’t want to gloat.

Gloating is realistic - that looks like a wonderful boat. I recently bought a cat ketch & like it very much but it's going to be too big in a few years.

First off, I am glad to say I do not have too many boats. It seems that two thru five seem perfect for this lot. However, if you consider Kayaks boats, I am in trouble.

Now to get into trouble. I know the M15 and M17 are considered near perfect boats, but I have never been truly happy with my M17. It might be that much of that is due to it being the rare four berth boat, but I just cannot get comfortable in the cabin, the limited space the boat has for sitting is far too little considering the size of the cabin.

Like John Malnor, I wish she had a nearly flush bottom, the stub keel is almost as bad as the full keel my old SeaSprite 23 had. It certainly keeps me busy in the shallow waters of the southern New Jersey shore. I think I have found more mud banks than I knew existed.

My next boat will be one I build. It will either be a Gartside boat or Garden's Eel, While not a very utilitarian vessel, Eel's beauty is bewitching, whispering unholy things in my ear like a sexy lover. It may be hard to convince myself to build a different boat.

Thanks for sending me to both Westlake's collection of hand troller plans and the wacky wedge boats- ah for funky boats and all of us that can't get enough of them. Curious if the US also had hand trollers like these? I never see reference to them (if anything, I see the rowing gill netters).

Well, 1 Cape Falcon SOF kayak, 2 B&B designed cat ketch boats, a Core Sound 20.3 and MF246. All beautiful designs for different tasks. Can’t just have a tool box full of 1/2 wrenches!

I have a Grampian 26 at the marina that I sail on Lake Ontario. I have a Siren 17 that only weighs 750 lb and is easy to trailer and rig. I find it too tender for my liking.

Last summer I bought a Sandpiper 565 which is 18.5 ft long and weighs 1200 lb so still easy to tow, launch and rig.

My bucket list is to sail all the great lakes and I just have Lake Michigan to do.

I also have two dinghys.
