Great story! Especially interesting to me since I've almost finished a refurb of my 1985 MacGregor 25 which will be on South Holsten Lake which lies between east Tennessee and Virginia.
A jolly good tale, well told. Your account of the incident of jumping off into deep water reminds me of one of my firm rules when sailing in any boat: electronic gear being transferred to and from shore should be firmly closed up in watertight containers (preferably a Pelican case) until the transfer is complete!
I've maintained an online AMF Sunbird group, in one form or another for almost 3 decades, helping to keep the boats afloat, and dealing with the few common problem areas they have. I always looked forward to reading whatever Norman posted - he was always both informative and entertaining - and this read was no different!
Thanks, Norman. Your excellent humor adds to the fun details, making me recall parallel experiences with pleasure. Appreciated!
