Most of you will remember our progress reports on Roy Schreyer’s new miniature houseboat called MiniD. Roy says she was just launched and performed brilliantly—look for him to offer complete plans before too long.—Eds
Being the older grey haired lad you see aboard and after spending several hours aboard over 2 days, I can attest first hand to the functionality of the design, its stability in the water and Roy’s attention to detail.
My only suggestion would be a smoother running, quieter twin cylinder engine.
Roy, I was amazed how well that little 4hp single pushed her along! A twin would be lower rpm and so much smoother though. Awesome job on both the design and build! 👍
I agree, Frank! I was looking for a 6hp twin, I was looking for a two cylander 6hp four stroke but my searches only showed 8hp twins (that I could find) I have a 9.9hp, so might as well use it. Weight was why I wanted small but the noise rattled that idea out of my head! Lol! BestRoy
Ran into that same issued when I outfitted my 16' Jaunty slow poke cruiser. Seems the days of two cylinder sixes is over. In the end I used an 8 h.p. Honda twin with electric start from the used but not abused market and loved it for smoothness, relative quietude, and kinda of the notion that once you've had electric start you'll never go back.
It's absolutely fantastic to see Mini D on the water. What an incredible achievement Roy. I have been following this build from It's beginning and looking forward to the plans when available. Very nicely done sir.
Success and congratulations are in order Roy! I’ve been eagerly awaiting your launch day. Looking forward to a YouTube of the event, and future adventures of MiniD.
Always wanted a Diane's Rose, but like MiniD even more, especially with the bow ramp for our 80+ bods. Older small smooth twins getting scarce. Mabe new electrics?
I'm going to be adding a drop door on our DR! I don't need to do a well, just a hinged panel added to the bow! I have an older 9.9 four stroke twin, I'll tune for next season! BestRoy!
I have remarked on MiniD some time before and have out of appreciation for the concept kept looking at it from time to time. Bear in mind it is similar to one I conceived for my usage as a 'last boat' but I ran out of steam to do it as mother nature has crept up on me. I would like to say having viewed the pictures many times, MiniD is brilliantly conceived and magnificently executed!! Not to put too fine a point on it. Heheh.
Being a slow poke geezer these days I appreciate the MiniD from beginning to end and wish I was in the neck of the woods that made seeing it in person viable. Prolly don't need the drool on the finish..... Another Roy Schreyer triumph!
Very cool design, Can't wait to see more, plans. Nice looking craft, possibility for an aging sailor like me. Like to hear more about the building time and materials

The boat itself was awesome!!
Great job Roy!
A 9.9hp twin will be an upgrade for next season, Frank! Thanks for a great time last weekend!!! AllthebestRoy

Great. Maby something like Jeff Spira put on his Galveston 17.
