Inspiration comes in many forms. Reflecting back, I believe this project was a combination of seeing a Compac 16 with a wheelhouse added years ago, the marvelous creativity shown by members of the dinghy cruising club with their unique craft cruising the North Channel (as seen in a previous issue of SCA), and simply put...my own aging.
As easy as a O’Day Mariner is to rig and as wonderfully set up as she was, Jubilee was still a chore to both prep for and undo after a cruise. At home in the spring, I’ve often longed for a boat you could steer from inside and be able to gunkhole around the islands in the rain and cooler weather. The combination of inspirations, motivated by dreaming, led to the start of the Mariner project.
