Thank you to Frank Durant, who sent us these photos of his new custom cupboard rack and his mini trawler, built on an old O’Day Mariner 19 hull.—Eds

Space on a small boat is always at a premium! Come meal time, it’s a luxury not to have to dig out plates and utensils, but to have them at hand when needed. I built a version of this for my Montgomey 15 back in ‘07. This one is for my Oday Mariner mini trawler conversion.
The trick is to purchase your plates and bowls first so the rack is built so that they are fitted tightly and won’t bang around when underway. To assist with this I purchased square plates this time. Knowing I’ll never have more than two for a meal, I keep it to three plates and bowls. This allows for an extra snack or serving plate and mixing bowl etc. My “go to” is Corelle dishware or melamine for its ability to withstand abuse.
As you see, everything is up and out of the way yet extremely easy to access. I will put hooks on both sides for a flipper and BBQ tongs.

Oh my, I wanna see more about this conversion!
I like it! A canvas cover to keep everything in place in a knock down (probably not what you worry about in a trawler) which snaps into place might be a good addition.
Did i see an article about this conversion in another on-line magazine a while back? It looks familiar....
