Thanks for reading - I'm glad you enjoyed it. Are you involved with Rhodes? I admired my uncle so much - I as devastated when he drowned n vacation in Florida. I loved his boats -
I've got one of the first O'Day Sprites (with hand-painted red gelcoat and wood spars, no less!) that were designed by Phil Rhodes. I also have a Penguin (another Rhodes design)...with lots of strings to pull -- for a little catboat.
I see! Lucky you! Where do you sail out of? I'm stuck inland in northern California - after 50+ years of being in Hawaii, it's quite a shock not being able to walk out my door and drive a mile to the beach!
Chesapeake Bay...lots of small boat sailing opportunities around here. I worked in San Jose, hiked around the Bay, and Northern California is still one of my favorite places to visit...the twisty two-lanes are great.
The twisty two-lanes? I never thought of our roads like that, but yeah - they are! I've never done much sailing in California - only a couple times in San Francisco Bay - and man lemme tellya how bloody COLD that water is!
What a great story to share. We should all have teachers, coaches, mentors like Angela Treat Lyon's mother.
Thanks so much! Yes, I was lucky to have her on my side!
Great story, Angela. And thanks for the shout out to Rhodes and your uncle!

We only grow when we step out of our comfort zones and do and learn new things. Brava to the crew of this Woodpussy!
Thanks for reading - yes - growth is so hard, sometimes, but so fruitful! Thanks for the brava!
Great read Angela - I wish I had your mom to help lift me when I needed it!
Still racing, even though my first was in 74' - I don't quit.... anymore.

Lessons I hope to pass on to my Grandsons! Great story of self-discovery and very well told!
