My best Texas 200 experience was in 2020 in my first attempt when we motored in to Magnolia Beach after just breaking our mast. We had made it! The worst was in 2021 and we fought the North winds all the way to Corpus Christi and took out. I’m happy to say I’ve been gifted one of the yellow ducks and I am transforming it into the Disco Duck! Come sail it on Magnolia Beach anytime!
Josh…once again at this stage of life…I’ll take your word for it!!….sort of like the old saying….”if it weren’t for the honor of the occasion, I’d skip the tar& feathers!”…BUT I enjoyed it @ your discomfort!…thank you you very much!!..Dan
What a great chance to reminiscence, Josh. I guess I have done 15 or so T200's so far but that one is still my favorite. And in some ways, your telling of it is better than the actual event. Come on back and let's do it again.
Excellent! What a first class yarn. I now have every reason to believe that you and your fellow duckers are completely barmy but, hey, survival has got to mean something, right?
Great article. I sailed the Texas 200 in a Michalak Mayfly 16 which stayed together and suffered no breakage. Our trip was without extreme drama except for the rescue of another sailor treading water with NO LIFE JACKET. I'm not sure I'd do it in a duck though.
What a fantastic story!! I woke up at 4 am sorting through bills and emails. Then I saw this story and ended up repeatedly laughing at the screen. Seriously, the description on avoiding pig rooting provides a visual I predict will improve my mood for the rest of the day! Thanks for the great humor! With America still producing men like this....our Country is safe! Although, it also makes me think of those t-shirts, "Sounds like a bad idea. What time?"
Read this story a few times. It always brings a smile .

Great write-up on a spectacular event that happened a few years ago. - Yes, it really happened.

Thanks, Chuck. Any retelling is better than actually doing it ;-) Coming back for sure!

What does "Paid" at the top of some articles mean? Did someone pay to have the article published? Or is it only accessible for paid subscribers?
Not sure why it says that, I've not seen it . Nobody is paying to publish articles, so must just be indication that you're a paid subscriber.
