At Lake Titicaca I saw reed boats being refurbished (new flotation being installed, as the reeds eventually get waterlogged). They were bundling cast-off water bottles in netting for flotation, to be then covered with a new outer layer of fresh reeds. One advantage for a modern castaway is the rich lode of trash on beaches everywhere. Apparently the Peruvians are able to supply plenty of empties for their own use, as I wouldn't expect any ocean trash to reach the lake.
Looks very nice. Bundled bamboo seems to be the consensus so far to create the hull. How much real displacement per cubic foot do we figure one can count on with bamboo? I would guess 60 percent or thereabouts, or about 40 pounds. Subtract the weight of the bamboo, and I suspect a pretty long hull will be required to carry the survivor and gear. But a shady spot to rest -- perfect.
Truly extraordinary and beautifully depicted. I'd love to see an entire book done this way. A work of art.
Beautiful but where’s Garfield?

Excellent...and I really like your 3D design tool!
