I question your timing.

It's been unusually cold and nasty here in the hills of NE Oklahoma. Lovely Lake Ttenkiller even iced up quite a bit.

If I found myself stranded on a warm desert island even with a little sunburn I sure wouldn't be in any hurry to leave at the moment.

Can we use that opening drawing? Seems about as good a solution as any (I might jettison the Garfield phone, though)

Maybe we should just give John the prize now.

As much as I wish I could build a sweet outrigger canoe with sail, my building skills would probably be limited to burning out a dugout canoe and paddle. It's going to be a long 200 miles paddling, but at least I'll look buff in the rescue photos.

I'm definitely taking all the shiny stuff to put on my canoe in hopes that an overhead plane notices me. And maybe a small raft loaded with the tire and styrofoam to make a big smoky fire overboard if I see a plane or boat in the distance.

Hi Josh, Are there any tools available to build our escape boat? i.e. Axe, Adze, Machete or a saw. Though with the state of the ' civilized ' world these days, I don't know that I would be in a great rush to leave a deserted tropical Island.

Hi Stephen, yes...you should be able to produce at least some crude tools. I will post a few other questions and answers we've had below. I hear you about taking your time to leave a deserted island—maybe this contest should have been about trying to GET to the island.

Q: "First, what time of year is this stranding scenario ( for the sake of food plant ripening, not sure how that goes in the tropics but can't hurt to know)?"

A: You are stranded in November.

Q: "Are any of the metal scraps of a size and thickness that can be used as either a hatchet or adz?"

A: Yes, it won’t be perfect of course, but there are sufficient bits to fashion some poor tools.

Q: "Are there any rocks on this island that can serve to sharpen or grind to shape any of these metal pieces?"

A: Why yes, it so happens there are some granite rocks and outcroppings.
