With the cold, wind, and rain here in the PNW, I can start lots of building and repairing projects, not only for boats but also for the house and property. Also, I do lots more writing and introverted thinking, as well as planning for the next boating season and gardening season.
I’m a sailing instructor for CWB’s SailNow! classes every weekend year-round. Gets me on the water AND I get to introduce many new sailors to the joys of being on the water. Good times, albeit a bit chilly at times.
Oh, make another Greenland kayak paddle; lightly sand and re-finish a boat bottom (or two); lately it's been picking up another 'kit' and figuring out whether I will be able to get the new boat out of the basement workshop (canoe, kayak), come spring, or whether I best build this one in the dining room (again) so I can get it outside come May. Row or sail boat. It's all good fun, regardless. One workshop has a chandelier (dining room); the other doesn't!
I don't have winter because for over forty years I've been fortunate in being able to migrate north and south each season so that I can be outside...sailing, canoeing, kayaking, ....biking, birding and hiking in clement weather.
It's getting cold now on Cape Cod. The Typhoon is hauled so it's time to head to Cedar Key, FL to launch the little boats there.
I always like tinkering with my boats, sitting back with a thoughtful sailing story and an evening tot of Flor de Cana rum...
I am retired and where I live (on a gulf island in the Salish Sea) we have comparatively mild winters. So, I sail often on my Halman 20 sailboat and enjoy the peace and quiet of our local anchorages during the winter months. I also spend a lot of time in my workshop repairing and maintaining my small fleet of rowboats canoes and kayaks. Some winters i build another boat to add to the fleet. Boats come and go in my world. I probably am more focused on boats during the winter months than in the warmer months when tending to our large food garden and homestead chores seem to occupy more of my time. I read about boats and adventures on the water all the time. I guess it could be said that I am obsessed with boats and being on the water. Every day something boat related happens in my life.
In the fall I leave Maine and follow the sunshine to Florida. 🌞 I migrate back in spring. So I can sail year-round (and my wife can golf year-round 😜).
I do three of the five.
Same. Build, repair, read, enjoy some rum and / or scotch😏
Here in the Pacific North West, all of the above!
I sail online with Virtual Regatta. It's a lot of fun.
Ice boating. _/)

We actually leave the Canadian winter behind for three or more months and visit our southern neighbours!

I've actually got a boat permanently moored above my dinning room table. It is skin on frame canoe we call the "lampshade" boat.

Not so much winter here in TX anymore. We can usually find a decent-enough day for a sail most weekends. Now that I'm retired, that's even easier.
California has lots of choices for weather & sailing venues year round!!
We sail on. Rain or shine, cold or hot, day or night.
I tow my sailboat down to Arizona, and sail on Lake Havasu!

I also up my game time playing World of Warships (on the NA server - name LT_JackAubrey)
