Some of this actually applies pretty well to all offshore sailing. And if young men started paying attention to the needs and feelings of their "other" sooner in the time they sailed together, more would have them aboard a greater amount of time! A dream trip like this would be unlikely without that effort! Great story!
Wonderful that you had the chance to experience that cherished time together with some good advice. I too, survived a divorce while cruising 2-1/2-years with my wife (on a 23-footer). But the difference was never doing an overnight passage while cruising the Gulf and East Coast Intracoastal waterway. It was all fun of a lengthy sailing sabbatical. The important thing is sharing the adventures!
Loved this article. I am so sorry for your loss but I am so grateful you guys made the dream trip happen and not only made it happen but made it a dream experience for the both of y'all.

Very true. I owe a lot to the person who taught me to sail, on our honeymoon in Baja, and we're still married.
So great to read this! My hubby and I have sailed about 18,000 miles over 35 years and the honeymoon continues!
So nice to hear it, Jennifer. I am eternally grateful for every moment we spent together, on land and at sea. - K
When you volunteer information like that you better watch out or the SCA crew will come knocking asking for an article ;) sounds like an adventure!
I'm happy to contribute an article or another excerpt from my memoir.
Standing by! :-)
