About our article on Old Bronze Portlights, reader David Peebles writes:
"Elbow Grease in a Can" would be a great name for a cleaning product or a solvent!
Reader Tom Malley sent us this haiku:
Sailku
Crashing through waves closehauled—
Wind-whipped spray on my face
Does not douse the grin.
About our article The Dyslexic Venturesome Voyage, reader David Bower writes:
“One homemade boat, 1 bunk, and 2 girlfriends. The hazards of ocean travel are the least of his concerns.
Good read—thanks! Now I have to go get the book to see if he survives.”
Our friend Lon Zimmerman sent this fun photo:

Joan and I toured the CUAHTEMOC in seward, Alaska back in the 90s.
I have a photo of it in Resurrection Bay— the crew scrambling int the the rigging to unfurl the sails. This is the boat that crashed into the Brooklyn Bridge in New York this week.
The little boat in the foreground is the ALASKA ROVER, a sailing charter out of Seward. This photo always seemed like it was out of the 1800s.

To each their own, not every boat needs to be a showpiece. Lots of thought and work went into this one, I'd smile and shake his hand!
One boat, one bunk, two girlfriends sounds an awful lot like James Wharram!
