While, we are living the dream, crusing Georgian Bay, the North Channel and the many lakes Ontario Canada has, it is a summer time only activity! I dream of hooking up my boat to its trailer and escaping winter to cruse Florida's Gulf Coast shores from the Suwanee River to the keys! Maybe one day, but distance and cost keep us close to home! Oh we suffer so! Lol AllthebestRoy
I like the idea, but instead of going through the trouble of buying and selling a boat on a foreign place. My thought would be that it would be more interesting and build connections if we had a small boat exchange kind of like the home exchange platform. No money is exchanged just a credit towards a future borrowing somewhere in the network of participants. The added bonus, you may make a new friend and get good local knowledge shared.
Gulf Islands, San Juans, and Desolation Sound (previously done on keelboats) as well as the North Channel and islands out from Parry Sound ( across the Georgian Bay from Thornbury where I grew up.) Also Maine water trails parts of Scotland and the Shannon River. I’ve aged out now but one can still dream and enjoy watching others do it on YouTube videos.
The Aegean. What has kept me from doing it? Early on-time & $$$. Now- 82 years of being rode hard and put up wet. And---$$$! But I certainly cannot complain, having trailer sailor cruised the Keys and Florida Bay out to the Dry Tottugas, the entire Chesapeake and tributaries, the rivers and waterways behind the barrier islands of the Eastern Shore, the Maine coast near Bar Harbor, many mountain lakes of the US West, the Salish Sea from Olympia to the Broughtons..........and, on a friend's small Laurent Giles classic, Portsmouth to the Isle of Wight!
I’ve kinda done and/or am doing my favourites but I’ve often thought of simply poking around the shallows of Florida bay behind the keys. So many places others fear to tread. Would need a very shallow draft boat. A sandpiper 565 comes to mind as it has both room inside and the keel fully retracts to the 10” draft hull. Good sun shades and noseeum netting a must.
Reading of “Egret” years ago and the adventures of Capt Ralph Munroe intrigue me.
Lago Epuyen in the Argentine Patagonia. Crystal clear water, plenty of wind, absolutely remote campsites. Closer to home: Georgian Bay in Ontario, off Lake Huron.
All of the places everyone mentioned! And - I'd love to go to Australia and Tasmania and see what's what there ... and ... maybe Newfoundland ... and Greenland or Iceland ... and - oh heck - just show me a world map and give me a dart -
Am looking forward to another Texas 200 this year, but a dream would be to start on the leeward side of Cay Caulker in Belize and wander south behind the reef among the multitude of un named cays along the coast.
As for a destination, the Baltic Sea has grabbed my attention. It looks to have a crinkly coast that would be fun for gunkholing. At least the Åland Islands in the south if the Baltic look fun.
Many years ago I bought a boat in Greece and spent the whole summer cruising the islands. Sold it later to return to work in the states. Always wanted to ship a small boat to the Bahamas and explore the Abacos and Exuma. Maybe once I retire!
We ATUS talked about shipping our Potters to the Bahamas a few times……reality set in and we rented Sea Pearls down there…worked well…but we still wished our “P15’s” were there!
There is no limit to all our imaginations in this regard! Whatever SCA or Youtube has enlightened us to, the flames are burning! But a favorite of mine, both in distance, commitment and in beauty was the 33 mile off shore trip Bruce and John took in 2022. Here is part one of it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XxwEFz0okGI Since I'm sailing the misainier lug rig used by Roger Barnes, a special mention to all the areas he sails and has shown us.

Hey, Earl! Hope you're well.

Desolation Sound. Again and again.

After watching and enjoying Roger Barnes, I’m ready for sailing Brittany, wine, bread and cheese.

The Thousand Islands, Erie Canal, Finger Lakes, Great Lakes, and Georgian Bay. If I ran out of those places, I'd go into the lakes system of Ontario.

make sure to rent a car that has a hitch and permits towing of a boat.
