I love the idea of putting a lugsail on an old Windmill. And getting rid of the deep daggerboard, that is so easy to strike bottom, is another excellent improvement.
Is there a CAD program that has an instruction manual so that one can use it without taking a class? I would like to modify a sharpie type hull for a start. Laying out the strakes of a lapstrake hull would alos be cool.
My heart always goes back to reaching and planing the Windmill! With the cut (angle off the keel) of the bow, I always felt bad for my crew as bucket upon buckets of water would nail him broadside (even direct to the head) once flying. It was a pure adrenaline rush when reaching "on the edge" in 18+.
The daggerboard well was three or four inches open "extra" fore and aft with the normal position being forward at the top, angling aft to the bottom - did you make a solid blank that filled the daggerboard well completely? and then just shorten it to 10"?
What might be the total sail area of your ballanced lug? I've come close to getting back into a Windmill and know right where one (wooden) was ten years ago... you've got me thinking, thank you (I think)!
I like the "T" foil rudder and have this on my CROW! No fussing to raise and lower and they offer good "grip" even when healed! Your mods make sense! BestRoy

She's pretty, Rick.
