Love the story! Reminds me of my first-ever sail aboard an E-scow in northern Wisconsin...which we capsized in water shallow enough to trap the mast in the bottom. I had to swim out under the sail as it went over as I was on the low side...no life jacket. Live and learn!

Great story! I haven't gone IN the water under similar circumstances, but I have demonstrated Newton's first law on numerous occasions; easy to do in a small boat. Thank you for sharing it, and keep the life vest on!

I'm a total non swimmer. I'm 73 and have sailed since age 15. Somtimes I get the feeling people think I'm weird because I wear my vest whether on the dock or on the boat. I do take it off at anchor, in the cockpit or of course in the cabin. Donning it while underway, for getting on or off the boat, anchoring, boarding a dink, furling sails etc. As such, I have no amusing stories to tell. Thankfully I have never needed its services ... so far.

I didn't include this in the story but I have fallen off the dock more than once as well. Sometimes with but mostly without the life jacket. Now at 78 and with a bad case of the wobbles I really need to wear the jacket much more oftn
