A clean bottom cuts the power use in half. Imagine if the propeller had been as foul as the bottom as too often happens on inboard powered auxiliaries.
Apparently I'm not the only person to swoon over TT. Finding very little beyond what's listed below and want to find more. Much more. Holy buckets, this looks like it ticks all the boxes! Not finding anything on Kees Prins either. Where can we find plans?!
Silver Salt - in a way I'm happy I don't have the funds... TT indeed grabbed my heart upon watching the OCH video! Such a well planned boat - and what a sail plan looker! More videos, longer videos of TT please!
Please see my reply below. You can also see some photos and plans on dory-man.blogspot.com. YouTube has a couple of the videos the broker took if you search Townsend Tern sailboat. She’s really something special. We recently got back from sailing her in Florida, the Chesapeake and New England for 6 months.
numbers, graphs, amp hours, eyes glazing over, I don't even sail in saltwater and i'm not sure i've ever seen a barnacle anyway .... ... .... HOLY SMOKES THAT'S A BEAUTIFUL BOAT! You've got my attention now!
Nice verification of what has long been suspected. NOW, when are we going to get an article reviewing that beautiful boat? I saw the photo and I swear my heart stopped still! Not that we can afford one, but still we need a complete rundown, with interior and sailing photos....
There is a 15 minute video of the boat on Off Center Harbor. It is also featured in WoodenBoat magazine’s 2011 Small Boats issue. She is also among the hundreds of boats on the Worldwide Classic Boat Show that is currently online.
A nicely done analysis. I gather from the post and from Jonathan Lewis's comment , you've sold the Tern. A beautifully conceived boat. Hope you've not entirely swallowed the anchor.
As the fortunate new owner of the Townsend Tern, I’m pleased to report that the Coppercoat bottom treatment has resulted in a clean bottom and I haven’t had an opportunity to make a comparison. I wipe any slime off that develops over time but the surface remains smooth and free of barnacle growth. Thanks Chelcie. Very informative.

Sure. How do we do that? Put in your email and I’ll send you contact info?

Lordy Jonathan, I sail out of Harris Creek, near St Michaels. Wish I'd seen you on the Chesapeake.
