Being an “Old Geezer Myself” (did someone say 80??)…..I loved Marty’s article!……my upper level of skill was probably taxed under Kees Prins direction with SCAMP #6 B.Frank…took me 6 months….I would love to be able to spend time learning at the hands of “the 3 Old Geezers Boatshop”!…….Alas, too little time…so many boats…Again, thanks for the GREAT Article…Dan
I'll be 69 this summer. I'll be selling the family four bedroom and getting a 1 bedroom soon, but I also want something like a barn, with a stall for each boat and hobby! You have a very tasty collection of boats in your shop. The Poulsbo Boat caught my eye right away. She's pretty now and will be beautiful when completed!
well shucks, you're quite welcome - and again - congratulations on being a third of everyone's dream shop. The whole premise and the way you all did it is an inspiration. Have fun and thank you a lot for your response.
With enormous respect for this remarkable project, may i ask for a site to offer humble donations - if for no other purpose than to encourage this activity, and particularly the photos and stories yet to follow. What a shop you've created.
Thank you.
P.S. if appropriate, you may send the info to my email {asloar@gmail.com} then perhaps wipe this last sentence & put my post into the published notes to motivate others.. take care fellow geezers
Andrew - Sincere thanks for your generous offer to make a donation, but your support of Small Craft Advisor is more than enough…and much appreciated! (And, yes, I expect there will be more dispatches from Geezer Boat Shop, mostly after we’ve done some small-boat cruising this summer and gotten back to work on shop projects. We headed out last week for our first cruise of the season—back about June 20 from the B.C. Gulf Islands. The plan is to make short cruises during the height of summer while I get back to work on MOUSE, the gunter yawl. We’ll then be off cruising again for all of September, up north again. And come Fall, work in the shop will really accelerate! - Thanks again, Marty, Bob and Denis.
Bobby - I like the gunwale guard from Perimeter Industries (smaller size) that I get from Fisheries Supply for about $9.91/foot with an account. www.fisheriessupply.com More expensive is the similar product from Taylor Made, which you can find from multiple sources with a search. It’s more like $12.29/foot, and slightly larger in diameter so maybe not quite as good for a small dinghy. No cheap solutions for the nicely-manufactured stuff, but you can buy genuine used firehose (like 50’ rolls) on eBay for reasonable prices and make your own gunwale guard, using garden hose or some other small-diameter tubing for your core. (Just more difficult to install neatly.) - Marty
What a cool workspace. Thanks for sharing. And how wonderful to have good friends nearby for companionship and help in a pickle. I’ve missed Raven at her slip. I assumed you had taken off when good weather struck.
Michael - Yes, we’re cruising to the north and attending the annual Montague Harbour Small Boat Rendezvous that starts tomorrow on Galiano Island, in the BC Gulf Islands. Might post a brief report on the gathering next week. - Marty
Michael - Oops. I hadn’t looked at my passport since the Before Covid Times, so naturally it didn’t come out of the onboard file until we were anchored in Prevost Harbor on Stuart Island…ready to cross Boundary Channel to Canadian Customs at Bedwell Harbour. Shock of shocks, the passport expired a few months ago, so lacking other acceptable documents, we’re remaining in the San Juans for another 2-3 weeks. (Not tough duty, so no major complaints, but I’ll get a fresh passport before we head north again in September.)

Heavy sigh! Living in the dry hole of boating I lust in my heart for such digs. Glad you have them!!

Most folks don't realize the value of a space like this until it's gone. A very lovely shop!
So the rub rail cover for the sharp looking 10.5' Walt Simmons designed dinghy: Is that a fire hose?

Frank and I have many fond memories of cruising beside your Carpenter in the SRR, Denis. 'Glad to see you're still at it!
