Had a great first sail with my new boat. I started out with just the 4 sided sprit main as the wind was in the low teens but eventually added the jib and then the mizzen mast. Boat balanced great and moved along smartly while offering good stability despite its small 12' length and the cockpit seats being rather high off the waterline. Very happy! I have a couple of tweaks as always but fewer than past creations. Will be using the boat at a cruise in the Pensacola area people are invited to on September 20th to the 23rd. Details posted to the Florida 120 facebook site. Wish I could post pictures.

Happy to have another photo essay or report when you get time.

Very nice, and I like the heavier ply also for stability. Am I seeing an off-center centerboard trunk on the port?

Yes, offcenterboard which gives me 40" width for the cabin sole.

Love this, looks pretty similar to PicoFolkBoat. Do you have any plans to share?

Hi Scott, there is lots to like about your new build, congratulations. What are your plans for hatch covers? Will you use hard or canvas enclosures?

Hinged box top lid for the cockpit. Can fold forward and use as rowing thwart or fold back and use as centered seating for light wind days. Finally, can flip upside down and put in footwell to capture any sand and water my feet bring in. Will have boxtop lid for cabin slot when trailering. Otherwise, a cloth roll up cover with sewn in battens that will sit on top of slottop lip or, if raining, can pull down ends to create arched cover.

Sounds well considered. I particularly like the multi use, multi-solution approach you are incorporating. A soft and hard cabin slot cover, a multi-position multi-use cockpit cover. I find myself brainstorming a soft solution in the cockpit. Instead of using just an inverted cover, add what amounts to a waterproof, drop-down, pool liner, that could capture wayward sand & water, and might prevent the boat from flooding in extreme circumstances. I hope we get to see your finished boat, it’s been thought-provoking for me. I like it!
