Homely, inelegant, crude—call it whatever you want, but this boat type has a long history of serving its purpose.

Folks don’t build many wooden johnboats these days. The basic hull shape is seen in sterile aluminum versions that predominate, but it’s a shame more wooden ones aren’t built, as they offer a lot of utility and versatility.
