As her images clearly demonstrate, Sally Gadow loves boats—details of design, quiet reflections, and graphic beauty. She has also owned and sailed some amazing classics, including a Flicka, Bristol Channel Cutter and Cape George Cutter. (At this point in life, she’s winnowed her fleet down to one sea kayak, which she enjoys for calm-water photographic outings.)
Amazingly, Sally has only been actively shooting photos for the past ten years—first with a digital camera, then also the iPhone 10 when it came out. These days, many of her images are captured with an iPhone 13 Pro.
After teaching philosophy for 35 years and living in Maryland, Virginia, California, Florida, Texas, Colorado, Port Townsend and across the pond in Cornwall, England (not in that order), she mainly focuses these days on images of boats.
“My joy,” she says, “comes from presenting a subject in a way that might not have been done before, even if it makes the object unrecognizable.”
The images here are recognizable, and yet they describe subjects in a graphic and caring way—by someone who loves the water and beautiful watercraft.
Absolutely beautiful, especially the ones with the clinker-hull boat reflected in the water. What talent!
BRAVO! 👏👏👏👏👏👏
