Some might find the lines of the Ranger 20 appealing, but we certainly didn’t. However once we’d sailed one and the “form-follows-function genius” of designer Ray Richards came into focus, the Ranger became a favorite. On performance we wrote:
“We fell off and were quickly underway. Our first impression—and one that lasted—was that the Ranger felt bigger than her 1500 pounds. She came through tacks with authority, and crew movement while under sail had only minor effect. She was also an upright sailer. No doubt her rail might be forced down if she were really pressed, but the Ranger seemed to firm up nicely at less than 15 degrees. Helm balance was very light with only a touch of weather. She pointed well, tacking in about 90 degrees.
