Old Salt 15 Update
It’s always exciting to see a brand new design start to take shape. Despite knowing its dimensions, there’s usually something that surprises. In the case of the Old Salt we’ve been struck by her impressive volume.
Although the water-ballasted craft will be quite light, she should feel big and stable. And have a look at the size of the cockpit stowage lockers—not to mention the under cabin area. We’re getting excited about the possibilities.
The prototype build is back at Brandon’s shop right now so parts can be cut or modified quickly as needed, but she’ll be back in the Northwest Maritime Center by Wooden Boat Festival. We’ll share details on the Old Salt Founders Build classes soon!

Looks like it’s going to be a good little -big boat!
It looks like there will be a small space between the floor of the cockpit and the bottom of the boat. I always tried to avoid small enclosed spaces like this as I thought they tended to promote rot. I see there are limber holes, but what is the plan to dry that area out between uses?
