Ocean Capable Small Sailboat

In the fall of 2021, I found myself back with my old company, working remotely after they had laid me off at the start of the pandemic. I’d spent the year in between doing odd jobs and chasing office positions that never panned out, so returning to familiar work felt like a stroke of luck. Even better, a favorable time-zone gap meant my mornings were suddenly my own again. I had no idea then that, over the next three years and eleven months, I would pour those mornings into building a boat.

At the time I was inspired and amazed by the sailor Yann Quenet and his 14’ boat called Baluchon which he was sailing around the world. I wanted to build a similar boat and fulfill a desire I’ve had for a long time to cross an ocean on my own boat. Yann had a construction image gallery online, but unfortunately not any thorough videos on the build. I thought: “what if I could do an ocean passage in a similar boat, but anyone curious could go back and see the whole building process in thorough detail by watching videos?” That’s when the Ocean Capable Small Sailboat Youtube channel was born.
