Just got my first dinghy and will have to do some learning this summer! I got connected to the Chesapeake Shallow Water Sailors and got to learn about the spring sail and hope to join next year.

Hey - that spicy looking green Potter is mine. Have to say the Pelicans carried the day, though. And Lee in his Bjoat - the guy who took these great photos, and convinced us we could pull this together. A good time, all!

Boat Talk group (current and aspiring boat owners welcome) meets the last Friday of every month at the Center for Wooden Boats on Lake Union - come join us. Let's figure out where we're going next.

I was on that cruise in the blue Pelican and I extend huge thanks to Lee for coordinating and sharing these pictures! It was a truly perfect day. Editor: Please make sure readers in WA & OR know about the August 8, 2026 small boat gathering on Blake Island near Seattle, Tacoma and Bremerton: https://www.pocketyachters.com/events/sbbr/

We just finished extending the tongue on Nereid's trailer by 12" and installing a winch for easier retrieval. [Neither of us is young, but man is known for creating labor-saving devices to make our activities possible.]

Our trip to Rhode Island and Maine is postponed by at least a month due to cochlear implant surgery in June, along with followup medical appointments.

Meanwhile, we plan to visit the rivers and bays in the area, with a run to the Delaware this Month.

There are many Ham radio activities scheduled, which means that most of our boating will take place during the week.

I still have not heard from Sail4th250 as to our participation a volunteers, either on the water or on land. I tried to set up an activation for our ARES [Amateur Radio Emergency Service] team, but crickets.

Group cruises seem to be fun. It's hard for a 6-knot hull speed to keep up with those motorboats that want to go faster! But they save me a spot for when I get there. Usually, the food is cooked by the time I get there. The evenings are enjoyable on the dock.

Having recovered from the 41st annual Cedar Key Small Boat Meet, I'm now getting ready for the Florida 120 in Pensacola, Florida, next week!

I've been trying to get enough sailing experience in my Caledonia Yawl to finally be comfortable joining the Salish 100. Maybe 2027?

I'll crew on the Scowza Yowza in the intermittently scheduled race

between the teams of Libraria and Crouton in Yaris.

There will be rum.

I've heard Yaris is beautiful this time of year.

Rewiring the trailer, sort of. After doing the same thing over far too many times, the sailing dinghy trailer light bar and harness are removable and the utility trailer that hauls paddlecraft when it's not hauling garden stuff is getting our first wireless, rechargeable, LED light setup! It sounds too good to be true, and perhaps it is. We shall keep you posted.

I'm new to sailing. In fact, I haven't sailed yet, but I have some lessons coming up. About six months ago, my fiance and I purchased a Rob Roy 23. We found out about small craft advisor by researching the boat. There was a great article on a past issue of someone sailing their Rob Roy to the Bahamas. I became a subscriber immediately because, although we haven't sailed, our goal is to network with the community and find others that sail to help get our own journey started. We've been restoring her and she is ready to hit the water and only needs top and bottom paint and she's ready to go. Hopefully we'll be able to put her on the water in the next week or two. I just learned about the Florida 120, but I have been trying to talk to other people around Louisiana where I'm located, and hopefully we can start sailing with others in the area. I appreciate all the work that you all do. Hopefully we'll see you out there one day!

One more Texas 200 for this old man ;-)

The stars have aligned this year to the point that I'll be able to make the finish of the Texas Water Safari in Seadrift and then meet the Texas 200 fleet at Quarantine Shores.

The Texas Water Safari was a big part of my life for many years and it will be a pleasure to see some old friends again.

From Quarantine Shores I'll be able to make the one campsite I've missed over the years at Army Hole,

The race to alaska is definitely on my bucket list as well. But I think doing the Barefoot Raid would be a good precursor as so much fun.

Just gotta finish building this boat, one of these days :)

I want to do the race to Alaska one day. It seems right up my alley!

After a lifetime of many sailboats, I've downsized to a 12ft Pelican and am looking forward to any West Coast camp/sail events, (and a new radio might help :-)
