Pictured above is the Davidson Chugger, the 21ft version or 22 ft depending upon who you are speaking to. I had the use of one when we lived in Prince Rupert and they are a grand sea boat, but they roll like a pig. Fitting paravane flopper stoppers much improves the ride. The boat actually belonged to a doctor with whom I worked and he brought it up all the way from Vancouver on one tank of diesel. I would like to have one again, but finding one for sale is damn near impossible. So back to the design board—computer actually.
This my take on the Chugger. I haven’t figured out what to call it yet. Maybe the Morello 22 or Nanoose Bay 22.
You can easily see the resemblance. It’s basically a 22-foot skiff with a box keel powered by a 20 hp outboard. You could put a little diesel in it or even an electric drive. She’s 22-feet LOA/LWL, beam 8-foot 3 inches at the deck level station 5, 7-feet at the waterline station 6. The box keel is 4 feet wide at station 5 so you can beach her without falling over. The internal set up is similar to the original. Small galley to starboard and composting head to port. Two settees/single berths forward and room for three or four people in the cockpit for drinks. Top speed about 6 knots.
