Little Dipper: Special Purpose
Only 12 people have walked on the moon... a comparable number of people have ventured onto the surface of Yellowstone National Park’s scalding hot Grand Prismatic Spring.
A reader sent us this interesting article about an unusual small boat. Click here to read. —Eds
I'm guilty of consciously checking the "I could die" box when deciding whether to do something or not. That might be what it takes when you want to boat where no one has boated before. I would have been nervous, but I totally would have gone out in the Little Dipper. I can make that decision for myself, but I won't make it for others. (And prefer others not to make it for me.) I liked this story and its yesteryear freedom. What an unforgettable experience.
Given the severe consequences of going overboard from the Little Dipper, I would think they'd have had at least a guardrail along the sheer. Something to catch oneself on before going over the side. Because anyone can lose their balance or be accidentally bumped by a crew mate. But other than that bit of safety concern, I'd go out onto the hot lake in it. It wouldn't be boating per se. But certainly an experience made possible by a boat.
It's a unique steamboat! And who doesn't like steamboats?
