SCALLYWAG CAMP 2024 is June 24 through July 5th in Eaton Rapids, Michigan. SCALLYWAG, John Welsford’s newest creation, will be the second group build and again perhaps the fastest way to get on the water regardless of your boat building skill level. Be one of the first to build SCALLYWAG with the assistance of the designer and Howard Rice. Both gents are highly skilled and you will not only have their undivided attention as you build together but you will also have the chance to drive away with a highly accurate hull to finish. Then help from these two doesn't stop there, online support, phone video discussions are part of our commitment to help you get on the water! SCAMP Camp 2024 will be held in Eaton Rapids, Michigan July 8-19. The successful SCAMP Camp program is now in its 12th year and has been the fastest way we know of to help you get on the water in this now legendary classic of a small boat. Salish Sea Small Boat Sucia Island Rendezvous is 12-14 July at Sucia Island, WA, at Sucia Island, WA. The 'crown jewel of the state's marine park system' offers several bays for anchoring, and several camping areas. https://sites.google.com/view/sssbs
SALISH 100 is 18-25 July. Overnight stops along the route are Henderson Inlet, Longbranch, Gig Harbor, Blake Island Marine State Park, Kingston, and Port Ludlow Marina before reaching our final destination in Port Townsend. Small Craft Skills Seminar is July 23-26 in Mackinac City, Michigan. The Seminar offers you the chance to improve existing skills and acquire new ones with other sailors including hands on sailing with experienced instructors. The 2024 Seminar will be facilitated by Howard Rice and John Welsford. You are encouraged to bring your own boat but can also join us if you don’t have a boat. Pacific Northwest SMALL BOAT FESTIVAL will be July 26-27 at Port Ludlow Marina, south of Port Townsend, WA. The event will showcase 100+ small boats—75 in the water and 25-30 displayed on land—and include a dinner Saturday evening for registered boat owners. Organized by the Pacific Northwest Pocket Yachters, the SBF will be sponsored by the Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding, Small Craft Advisor magazine, Duckworks Boat Builders Supply, Glen-L Marine, Gig Harbor Boat Works, Port Ludlow Marina and others to be named in coming weeks. North Channel Cruise is 27 July - 10 August on Lake Huron, Canada. A cruise in company event, incorporates a thirteen day western bound leg departing from Little Current with overnight marina stops in Blind River and Gore Bay as well as a day stop in Kagawong. Mariner Class Association National Rendezvous will be 2-4 August. Boats to launch at the state-owned, well-maintained Niantic River launch ramp in Waterford, Connecticut Friday morning and sail approximately 2 ½ hours to Bushy Point Beach in Groton for lunch and swimming. We’ll then sail up the Thames River in the afternoon to Crocker’s Boat Yard in New London for a two night stay. http://www.usmariner.org
Antique Boat Museum Antique Boat Show is 2-4 August at the 1000 Islands Museum on the St. Lawrence River in Clayton, NY. Door County Classic & Wooden Boat Show is 2 - 4 August. Bring your crew, friends, and family for boating and fun at the historic Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, working waterfront. On display are beautiful boats to admire, some professionally built and maintained, others the work of talented amateurs, some boats are in the middle of restoration! Vessels range from canoes to kayaks, sailboats, fiberglass classics, and glorious mahogany runabouts. Registered boaters will be showcasing their boats for the weekend and competing for awards and ribbons. Dinghy Delta Ditch Run is 3 August. A small boat regatta beginning at Rio Vista, follows the Sacramento River Deep Water Ship Channel, and finishes at Lake Washington,West Sacramento, California. This is the only long distance, downwind small boat and dinghy race in the whole USA! lwsailing.org
Blue Hill Maritime Heritage Festival is 3 August at Blue Hill, Maine’s historic village waterfront. Various activities will be occurring throughout the day, such as boat building demonstrations, oar carving, traditional boats on display, kiosks of organizations supporting or involved with Blue Hill Bay. On the water there will be more boats, demonstrations, many offering rides. Musicians will be adding to the maritime atmosphere with sea shanties and fiddle tunes. The Downeast Chapter of the Traditional Small Craft Association will be hosting and cosponsoring. bhmhf.org
Leech Lake Regatta is 9 - 12 August on Leech Lake, Minnesota. Come and enjoy racing, sailing, campfires, music, and camaraderie! Boats race in two fleets; mono-hulls and multi-hulls. Cathlamet Wooden Boat Show is 10 August - 11 August at the Elochoman Slough Marina, Cathlamet, WA. The show itself is on Saturday & Sunday, folks come in on Friday and then hang around until Sunday, visit and leisurely depart. In addition to the main attraction of the Festival, the boats, many exciting things planned including nautical-related presentations and demonstrations, music, activities for the entire family, food and craft vendors, and even a specially brewed beer from the River Mile 38 Brewery for the occasion. OBX130 is 13 - 18 August at Cape Lookout National Seashore, Outer Banks, North Carolina. Sailing north, with a stop in historic Portsmouth before heading south to the Ophelia Inlet Anchorage and towards the Cape Lookout Lighthouse and the Shackleford Banks. Barefoot Raid is 14 - 22 August. A week of challenge sailing and comradery from Fanny Bay to Heriot Bay, BC, Canada, with multiple motherships for support. Quincy Classic Boat & Outboard Show is 16-18 August on the Mississippi River waterfront in Quincy, Illinois. An in-water meetup that includes a 17 mile Mississippi River Run from Mark Twain’s home town of Hannibal, MO to Quincy, IL with a lockage through Lock and Dam #21 on Friday, June 16th. Wooden Boat Show is in Toledo, Oregon, on the Depot Slough at Port’s Marina and Waterfront Park 17 - 18 August. The weekend is family friendly and celebrates the historic traditions of wooden boats and recreation on the Yaquina River. Lake Champlain Challenge Race is 17 September at Vergennes, Vermont. This annual challenge and fun-filled summer race on Lake Champlain is for human-powered vessels and all are invited to compete in a three-mile course at Lake Champlain Maritime Museum to set the new fastest time for their respective category. After the race, all are invited to a free lunch buffet, hosted by the Museum’s rowing clubs. Watertribe NC Ultra Marathon Challenge starts 17 September on Cedar Island, North Carolina. The participants are unsupported during the expedition-style adventure race for kayaks, canoes and small boats. Starting and ending at Cedar Island the challenge follows a 96 mile circular route just inside NC’s Outer Banks passing through the Pamlico Sound and Neuse River areas. The Glen-L Boatbuilder Forum is 19 - 22 September at Blue Water Resort, Lake Chickagauga, Dayton, Tennessee The group is made up of builders and owners of Glen-L boats and all are invited including owners and builders of other designs. The International Maritime Film Festival is a juried contest of films celebrating the heritage, spirit of adventure, and ingenuity of boats and waterborne pursuits and will take place 26 - 28 September, at The Alamo Theatre in Bucksport, Maine, and the online festival will follow from October 1 - 31. During scheduled intermissions of the in-person event, festival-goers will have opportunities to explore downtown Bucksport and its eateries, shops and scenic waterfront overlooking Penobscot Bay, with views of Fort Knox and the Penobscot Narrows Bridge. maritimefilmfestival.com
Chesapeake Light Craft Northwest Maritime Center Workshop Takeover is 30 September - 25 October. Build the CLC boat of your choice! The Northwest Maritime Center is excited to partner with Chesapeake Light Craft to offer this unique workshop experience. Talented professional instructors will help you assemble your own kit from start to finish. This workshop will take over the Boatshop for 4 full weeks, giving more time than a normal class setting to have access to the space, tools, and instruction they need to complete their project. Students have the option to sign up for one of two 2-week blocks, or for the entire 4 weeks. The workshop environment allows students to choose a project from Chesapeake Light Craft’s vast catalog of offerings and have the space and professional help to build it. Cat Island Mississippi Rendezvous has happened in September. Just thought I’d let you know that because of this calendar, my wife and I have signed up for the North Channel event at the end of July. It will be our first visit to that locale and besides the camaraderie, we thought the local knowledge would be a benefit to our explorations.
