We’ve received a few emails recently that work as classified ads. I’ll post these few down below, but please send us your own small-boat-related classified postings as well and we’ll prepare another big batch for later in the week. See details below—Eds
Send your text description (up to 100 words) and a single photo (jpeg) to this address: josh@smallcraftadvisor.com
Make sure to include the following information:
A. The item price
B. Your contact information (email at least, phone optional)
C. Your location or general region
The deadline for submissions will be Friday, June 28th.
Answers to your questions:
Can I run more than one ad? Sure, you can send us up to 3 ads, but please send them as separate individual emails so we can stay organized.
Can I submit a commercial ad for my company, dealer, etc.? No, but we will have some options for commercial advertising eventually.
Can I alter my ad—delete it, change price, etc. after it is posted? No, there really is no provision for that. We will plan to delete the post eventually so you’re not getting contacted a month after the boat has sold, but do expect to have people making contact even after the boat has sold if it sells quickly.
Can I submit a Wanted ad? Sure.
What is the cost? The ad is free to anyone, although only paid subscribers will see the post.
If you’d rather just run a conventional classified ad somewhere—or do both—we also still have our regular classifieds page located here.
Good luck!
Pro builder Denis Craddock in Australia sent us these details for his almost finished Vivier Ilur:
Our boat is around 3/4 complete. Built in Okume Ply with a modified 4 laminations keel of Queensland Maple and Fijian Mahogany. All sealed with the West Epoxy System, and painted in a 2 pot epoxy paint. The vessel was built for expeditions/adventures in mind.
The external stem is currently being made and will be of solid timbers and varnished. The interior needs to be finished off, but will be sealed and painted, with seats varnished. The mast will be of Douglas Fir (same applies to the Top Yard, Boom and Mizzen Mast)
Sail is a balanced lug sail by Really Simple Sails. Color is Tanbark and there is a Mizzen Sail - all new in a sail bag.
Boat will come with a brand new galvanised road trailer.
Asking price in USD is $15k with a 50% deposit initially, and the rest when shipped. I have been quoted around $2000 to ship the boat to the US, but can ask around for competitive prices.
Boat will be finished by Christmas, so can be shipped over winter and ready for the Northern Summer!

Pegasus (photos above) 16’ by 5’ Built 2022
This is Jim Michalak’s AF4 Breve with a six inch flotation box extension and wider skids and keel and a thicker keel. The latter do not help with the pounding in a chop, but help prevent skids or tripping in tight high speed turns. The boat has a 15 h.p. Honda with tiller steering. With one person aboard it lifts its nose at 5 knots and levels out onto a plane at about 11 knots, cruises nicely at 12 to 14 knots, top speed is 16.9 knots. I would keep this but monthly payments for open storage difficult to access is an issue for me.
The Honda has 20 hours on it and is just broken in. The galvanized trailer has traveled less than 250 miles.
At full asking price it comes with a small dinghy. Asking $7500.
Scraps 6’3” by 3’ 10” Built 2024
This is John Welford's Scraps. Built to fit in the back of my car and be a dinghy for the AF4 Breve. Can row two, three in calm waters.
Does not come with oars. Asking $450
Annabelle Skiff (photo above) 10’ by 4’ Built 2020
This is Dave Gentry’s Annabelle design. It is his skin on frame interpretation of a Howard Chapelle design. See Dave's website http://gentrycustomboats.com/home.html for more information, a picture of my boat, and videos showing the toughness of a Dacron skin. This one is made from 10 oz cloth, what was available at the time so it weighs a little more than if it had the more standard 8 oz cloth—78 lbs. But it is still readily—car toppable.
It sails great with one or two, but best with one. It rows best with one but can handle two with the transom dragging—unless the passenger is a small child. In excellent condition, it is my most attractive boat.
Comes with a cart if one wants it, but no oars. Asking $2200.
Chautauqua 15’3” x 38” Built 2017
Another Dave Gentry skin on frame design. This is the cruising version of his sailing canoe. Again see his web site for more information and a couple of pictures of my boat. Of the many boats I have built, this is one of my favorites. It sails, rows, and paddles. When sailing, I love sitting low in the cockpit facing forward and using the tiller stick. It is mainly a solo boat but can be paddled or sailed with two. This boat has served me well on four canoe camping trips with friends. But on this fifth and maybe last trip, I need a different boat—something not so low, so easier to get in and out of, something with more capacity so I can take a portable toilet, a bigger tent and a better sleeping pad, and finally a way to keep up with my younger friends when there is no wind.
Needs a little work. Comes with a Hugh Horton seat and a paddle but no oars. Asking $1200
Nutmeg 14’2" by 4’6” Built 2021
This is Dave Carnell’s simplified version of Phil Bolger’s Featherwind, using a lateen rig, with some modifications by me including a pram bow to make it easier to car-top and Jim Michalak's lee board system. Phil Bolger described Featherwind as the best flat bottomed, straight sided sail boat he could draw, and continued in his book Small Boats: “I don’t see how a real sailboat, with as good performance and as few vices as most, could be put together, one off, much quicker than this one, or out of cheaper materials. This boat however is not make of cheap materials. It uses Okoume Marine Grade plywood for the hull and Sitka Spruce CVG for the yard and boom, and stitch and glue(phot chine seams for a clean interior.
It can sail well with four and rows well with three, and perhaps four, if some are children. It is the most versatile small boat I have, but doesn’t work well for me as it requires sitting on the bottom and I have a hard time scooting my butt around when tacking.
I had reef points installed in the sails hoping to be able to reef it similar to the Bolger/Payson Zepher, but haven’t been able to make that work. Maybe a future owner could do better. However the lateen rig is an easy sail to drop or brail up.
Comes with a pair of 7’5” oars, and a cart if desired. Asking $2200. Contact Dan at: dantaylor@bellcoho.com •SCA•
